Urn
The present invention relates to an urn which comprises - an ash holder part with a bottom side and a top side, the top side being provided with an opening, and - a detachable lid for closing said opening on the top side of the ash holder part; which urn is arranged for - introducing ash into the ash holder part with the lid removed, and - releasing ash from the urn with the lid connected to the ash holder part at a desired moment, the lid being connected to the ash holder part in a first position and - can be in a second position connected to the axle holder part, wherein in the first position the lid keeps the urn closed and in the second position partially releases said opening for scattering ash; and wherein the urn comprises a releasable foot;
The international patent application WO / 2007/081200 describes an urn with an ash holder part which is provided with a second opening on its underside. This lower opening can be closed by means of a member (valve). The lower opening is closed in a first position of the member; in a second position of the member this releases the lower opening. Ash is brought into the ash holder part with the member in the first, closing position. The urn is mounted on a pipe inserted in the bottom. The urn makes it possible, by placing the member in the second position, to introduce ash in the urn through the pipe into the bottom.
Such an urn has a relatively complicated construction. There are also restrictions on the location where the urn can be placed and the ashes can be delivered.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an urn in which at least one of the above problems is reduced. US2006 / 0168786 describes an urn according to the preamble. This has a cover which is screwed to the axle holder part by means of bolts. If the bolts are not fully tightened, there is an opening through which the shaft could be scattered. The shaft holder is detachably attachable to a mounting plate.
To this end, an urn according to the preamble is characterized in that the foot is magnetically connected to the axle holder part, the magnet being so strong that it can support the weight of the foot.
This makes it easy to separate the foot from the rest of the urn or reconnect with it. The magnet can be in the foot, in the ash holder part or both the foot and the ash holder part can contain a magnet. In case there is only one magnet, the other part contains a material to be attracted by a magnet, such as iron or nickel. A stronger connection can be achieved if there are two magnets. Removing is very easy by tilting the axle holder part slightly with respect to the foot. By removing the foot, the weight of the urn can be reduced when the shaft is scattered from the urn. The foot makes it possible to make the ash holder part and / or the cover relatively light without losing stability.
The invention provides a relatively simple urn, which can suffice with only one opening. The urn can be stored at any location, such as a neighbor's house or in an urn wall at a cemetery, until the survivor wishes to scatter or partially scatter ash. For scattering the shaft, the cover is brought from the first position to the second position, for example by turning the cover, and the shaft can be dispensed in a controlled manner by tilting the urn. Pouring the ash into an ash scatterer from which ash is scattered according to the prior art is not necessary. An urn according to the invention may contain an amount of ash of, for example, at least 1.5 liters, such as at least 2 liters. The urn preferably comprises a locking member for holding the urn in at least the first position. The locking member is preferably also suitable for holding the urn in the second position. A suitable locking member is, for example, a rotary knob.
A favorable embodiment is characterized in that the urn is provided with a seal between the cover and the ash holder part.
The seal, for example in the form of an elastic seal in the form of, for example, a rubber strip, contributes to preventing the shaft in the urn from becoming moist over time. This reduces the chance of the ash hardening due to the moisture, which makes scattering difficult or even impossible.
A favorable embodiment is characterized in that at least one of the ash holder part and the lid of the urn comprises a material selected from plastic, aluminum and zinc.
Such materials are light, so that the urn can be easily handled when scattering ash. The said materials are also watertight, which helps to prevent the ash from hardening due to moisture absorption.
A favorable embodiment is characterized in that the outflow opening formed by partially releasing the opening in the second position is situated at transition between the upper edge of the ash holder part and the edge of the cover.
Thus, the urn can easily be poured completely empty.
A favorable embodiment is characterized in that in the second position less than 25% of the area of the opening of the axle holder part is released.
A limited outflow opening is thus provided, whereby the release of ash can easily take place in a controlled manner.
The present invention will now be explained with reference to the drawing, in which
FIG. 1 shows a section of an urn according to the invention; and
FIG. 2a-d show an axis holder part of the urn of FIG. 1 in top view, as it is closed by means of a lid.
FIG. 1 shows a cross-section of an urn 100 according to the invention. The urn 100 comprises an ash holder part 101 and a detachable lid 102. The ash holder part 101 comprises a bottom side 103 and a top side 104. The top side 104 has an opening 105.
In the embodiment discussed here, the urn 100 also comprises a base 110 which comprises a base 111 with an end 112 remote from the base and provided with a magnet 113 placed centrally therein. The shaft holder part 101 also has a magnet 113 on its underside 103 thereof ". The two magnets 113, 113 'attract each other so hard that they can support the weight of the base 110. The base 110 is thus easily detachable and can be reconnected to the shaft holder part 101, and will be disconnected for scattering the shaft in order to reduce the weight of the urn 100 and thus facilitate the scattering of shaft 199. The base 110 can for example be weighted with sand.
On the bottom of the axle holder part 101 there is a support 130 which extends to the upper side 104 of the axle holder part 101. In the embodiment shown here, the shaft holder part 101 has a groove 150 coated with a self-adhesive EPDM sealing ring (Oortman Rubber, Rhenen, the Netherlands). In the embodiment shown here, the cover 102 comprises i) a first cover part 151 which partially covers the opening 105 and supports in the groove 150 and defines a dispensing opening 105 'smaller than the opening 105 of the shaft holder part 101 and ii) a second cover part 152, which can be rotated relative to the first cover part 151 and whether or not the dispensing opening 105 'closes. For securing the cover in a first position (wherein the second cover part 152 covers the dispensing opening 105 ') and in a second position, there is a threaded knob 160 that cooperates with thread end 131 at the distal end of the support 130. When the second cover part 152 is rotated relative to the first cover part 151, the dispensing opening 105 'is released and the lid 102 is in the second position in which the knob 160 will be tightened again to prevent the dispensing opening 105' from being scattered during the scattering of the shaft 199 changes.
To prevent moisture from penetrating the urn 100 over time and the shaft 199 thereby hardening, a rubber strip of EPDM (Oortman Rubber, supra) is provided as seal 170. In case the dispensing opening is small, the urn can preferably also have an air inlet opening diametrically with respect to the opening for scattering the shaft, which opening is closed off by the cover in the first position. This air inlet opening will be smaller.
FIG. 2a shows the axle holder part 101 of the urn of FIG. 1 in plan view. The central support 130 can be seen. The support 130 is, for example, a metal cylinder which is welded to the bottom of the axle holder part 101. In the embodiment discussed here, the parts of the urn 100 are made of aluminum, and the ash holder part 101 is formed by sand casting, while the support 130 and a cavity for accommodating the magnet 113 are formed at the same time.
In this open state of the urn 100, ash can easily be introduced into the urn 100. On the central support 130 provided with threaded end 131, seal 170 is first placed against moisture penetration (Fig. 2b) and then the first cover part 151 is supported on the seal 170 and the peripheral edge of the shaft holder part 101, leaving the dispensing opening 105 '( Fig. 2c). For storing the shaft in the urn 100, this dispensing opening 105 'is covered with the second cover part 152 (Fig. 2c), an oversized rubber strip 170' attached to the underside of the second cover part 152 providing a seal against moisture (Fig. 2d).
The invention can be varied in various ways within the scope of the appended claims. Thus, if desired, it is possible to seal the gap there over the peripheral edge of the first cover part 151 where it connects to the shaft holder part 101 with a kit, such as a silicone sealant. Instead of the first cover part, the upper edge of the ash holder part can be turned inwards and contain a recess which can be released by a single rotatable cover (such as second cover part 152). In that case the single rotatable lid will support against the folded edge, preferably via a seal. Instead of a rotational movement, for example, a sliding movement of a cover part relative to the axle holder part is also conceivable.
